4ed conversion [Jun. 10th, 2005|10:29 pm]
Wild Cards Universe

I'm waiting until "Powers" comes out to seriously try converting, but I suppose I could get started soon. Is there any interest in a 4th ed conversion project for Wild Cards?

It's a *big* project, since W'Cards uses first edition Supers rules, and many of the later characters in the series aren't in the book.

In this year's Wild Cards game, I'm using GURPS 4th edition Basic Set. I have had no problem with characters being unable to build the super characters that they wanted, with very few GM calls. GURPS Powers would probably expand that greatly, I'm sure, but it should be considered a bonus, not a necessity.

I think people are so used to GURPS having a book for everything that they're too hung up waiting for the book than seeing what already exists for them.

I know that somewhere on GURPSNet (gurpsnet.sjgames.com), someone did a conversion of almost all of the 1st edition supers characters ever printed to GURPS Supers 2nd edition. That might be useful.

As you may have read, the Wild Cards characters were originally for an RPG using Chaosium's Superworld rules (long since out of print). The GURPS stats published in the book are a conversion of that material. Any other characters that have not yet appeared in very likely exist written up for that system. I know Stephen Leigh sticks his nose in here every so often, so you might try asking him very nicely for that kind of stuff.

I'd feel plenty comfortable designing characters with 4ed basic; it's the conversion of the ones in GURPS Wild Cards that I wasn't as sure about. I'll try to find the ones mentioned on gurpsnet; that'd speed up the process immensely.

Didn't know they were originally done in Superworld. I'll have to check with my friends to see if anyone has it; knowing the original game would help understand the translations. (I think I looked at S'world once, many years ago. It was yet-another-boxed-set-rpg, and I already had Champions & had no idea why I'd want another superhero game.)
